  Most likely old gas has gummed up the carburetor and blocked its jets and needs thorough cleaning.
  Use gas that's ethanol free in the future and use the fuel shutoff feature and let it run til it shuts off when done mowing.

  Could also be a bad thermowax cartridge which is part of the auto-choke system.
