20V battery does not charge

I purchased a new 20 V Max Hedge Trimmer from Amazon and the battery I received will not charge. When I plug in the charger, the green light comes on momentarily and goes off. The battery is completely dead, but when I plug it into the charger, no lights come on and the battery does not charge. I have many other cordless tools and chargers, but have never had this problem. The charges Craftsman provided seems Mickey Mouse to me.
